Firstly, a big thank you to everyone for your continued support and patience during this covid period. For the most part we have been overwhelmed by the sensitivity and understanding shown by our swimming families.
We understand that so many things have become a schlep (like the online health surveys) so we really do appreciate how your co-operation has made it possible for us to continue offering a quality service during this strange time.
Having said that, please continue to respect the rules of the Quadrant, especially with regard to parking and access. We have had a few complaints about our clients parking in bays reserved for Fetal Assessment Centre and the other businesses. Please can we ask you either drop and go or park underground in the Library Square or use the metered parking outside. Our rental agreement at the Quadrant depends upon us following these rules, so thank you for being mindful of this.
Timing Week
According to our Termly Teaching Plan we are now entering our Timing Week Series. Each week we will be timing swimmers for one stroke at a time. This week is Butterfly Timing Week. Swimmers in the 13h15 and 13h45 groups will be timed for 25m of each stroke. All other swimmers from 14h15 groups and later will be timed for 25m and 50m of each stroke (except Butterfly – as only the 17h15 and 18h00 groups are timed for 50m for Butterfly).

The aim of Timing Weeks is for swimmers to use the proper stroke and technique they have learned in the first half of the term and turn that into speed. We keep a record of swimmers’ previous times, and their aim is to beat their own personal time in each event. At the end of each week, we award a certificate to the swimmer in each swimming time slot for the biggest improvement (based on time).
At the end of the term we award a certificate and a medal to those swimmers who have improved in every single event. For the 13h15 and 13h45 groups this is 4 events. For all the other groups this is 7 events. This is not easy to achieve, but it is possible and we are always very proud of our swimmers who manage this feat. Results will be sent out at the end of term for you to track your child’s speed and progress.
St Cyrpians School
We are thrilled to announce that we will be running the school swimming programme at St Cyprians School in Oranjezicht, as well as a private offering for additional swimming. St Cyprians is in the process of building an exquisite indoor sports facility which includes a 20x25m 8 lane indoor heated pool. The pool should be ready by the end of 2021. Please stay tuned for sessions that will be offered on that side in case that is a more convenient option for you.
Holiday Clinic
Imagine performing gymnastics in the water to music
Imagine holding your breath for 30 seconds while running a 400m race
Imagine completing a triathlon in record time
Imagine jumping, spinning and performing figure skating moves in the water
Imagine a powerful waterpolo goalie jumping above the water to block a shot
Imagine lifting and/or throwing a 55kg swimmer above the water
Imagine a dancer whose musical interpretation and choreography captivates and entire audience…
OK? Now, when 2 or more swimmers achieve all of this and combine it with intricate, split second movements in unison, the result is artistic swimming. Want to try it? Now’s your chance.

Our SA Artistic Swimming Champions Emma and Tayla will be running a holiday clinic for artistic swimming from 10-14 Jan. Venue and times TBC.
Term 1 2022
We understand that so much is still uncertain in terms of school timetables, but it’s best to confirm a day with us and try change it later if need be, rather than miss out altogether.
